Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed and published by Valve. The game is a sequel to Defense of the Ancients (DotA), which was a community-created mod for Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack, The Frozen Throne. Dota 2 is played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on the map. Each of the ten players independently controls a powerful character, known as a "hero", who all have unique abilities and differing styles of play. Isn't atrophy aura his innate ability? Why doesn't he spend the points on the root spell instead? (Not played in a long time).
I can only assume it mainly comes down to what abilities will give him the most in the laning stage, he has pretty much next to 0 chance to kill the Undying or TB after lvl 3 so there's no point in taking your root since it would weaken your lane and slow down your ability to farm. It seems to me like the root offering control is kinda useless in laning stage unless you can use it for kills, even an extra point in your Q or E would offer way more in terms of damage in lane and ability to farm camps/creeps.

Stat wise it's too weak it's been nerfed a lot. A helm of iron will provide similar purpose for much more value for money. For centaur if you get vanguard you all-in on the return/farm build which is very slow and greedy
